Kittitas County Commissioner Cory Wright gave a presentation to the Ellensburg Morning Rotary outlining the current status of the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan and how it might affect the availability of water in Kittitas County.
Included in the presentation were projects to help salmon recovery, flood management, additional water impoundment, conservation and federal support for the project. Commissioner Wright seems to have taken over the role previously spearheaded by Past Commissioner Jewell. This shift in leadership was much needed to keep the continuity of the YBIP on track.
Significant time was spent outlining the sockeye salmon recovery efforts and joint projects of the Yakima Tribe and the other stakeholders. Of special note was the salmon fry release structure from Lake Kachess. This multimillion dollar project will allow young salmon to return to the ocean from the lake and significantly improve the chances of Sockeye recovery.
