Vote no on the proposal to add a sales tax for affordable housing in Ellensburg

Edited 3/14/19

This tax, in and of it’s self would pay for only two or three dwellings per year.

What it will do, as the proponents state it will provide an income stream to give the city the ability to saddle the citizens with even more long-term debt. I would be more open to such a proposal if the city had explored any other solution except hand-wringing.  Especially asking the private sector for their ideas that reduce the cost of housing like co-living, higher density, streamlined permitting and lower fees.  But oh no let’s start with a new tax and see what happens. Also, there needs to be a firm line between affordable housing and homelessness, two very different issues that the government  and the proponents of this tax like to join together for a more sympathetic voter reaction.

Ian Elliot – Ellensburg
